Conference Call Web Conferencing

Since their emergence into the digital market, popular literature and web articles have tended to focus on the cost savings aspects derived from the ability of conference calls and web conferencing to replace travel with virtual meetings. And although it’s true that conference calls and web conferencing do present a more affordable alternative to offsite meetings, there is actually a lot more to online business meetings than just saving an airfare.

The problem with conference calls and web conferencing is that when you’re a participant, you become so focused with what’s going on right in front of you that you fail to appreciate the many advantages of such. (This is unless, of course, you are actively looking). In fact, you will be fascinated to realize that the many aspects of running a conference call or web conferencing can make online meetings truly more powerful than a physical one. But as stated in the previous statement, many of these aspects never consciously surface while you are using the technology since being in a conference call or web conferencing usually means being one with them. And thus, you don’t particularly see the process and don’t appreciate the differences which only a novel way of communicating and collaborating, like conference calls and web conferencing, can bring to the table.

As such, this article aims to open your eyes to the many advantages of conference calls and web conferencing. Note that these aren’t all the advantages that conference calls and web conferencing can present. Rather, these are only the most obvious and whatever else you may have noticed in your own private experience with the technology is more of a subtlety.

Customized and Personal

This is perhaps the best part of conference calls and web conferencing. With collaborative technologies such as web conference, each of the participants has a personal presentation screen which they can customize to their heart’s content. There’s even no need for you to squint your eyes or lean forward so you can see what is displayed on the distant projection screen. Now, you can just sit back and watch your own, personalized screen, allowing you to focus not on your physical discomfort (since there’s virtually none) but on the topic at hand.

Talk About Focus and Attention

With conference calls and web conferencing, there’s little problem when it comes to attention and focus. The personalized feel of the presentation allows you to focus totally on what’s in front of you regardless of whether you are a participant or a presenter. Of course, it would take some effort on your part not to be distracted by whatever is going on at your office while the presentation on your computer is going on. But with dedication, you should be able to focus without any problems at all.
